Despite California being one of the world’s most iconic places, surprisingly few people get the chance to visit this glorious American state due to its far-flung location.
But California offers a massive array of attractions ranging from the movie-star glamour of Los Angeles, to great sports betting opportunities in the Bay Area, as well as the wilds of the state’s many national parks.
The City of Angels is undoubtedly one of the world’s most recognised locations thanks to it being the base of the Hollywood film industry. But there’s so much more to Los Angeles than just the movies, as the sprawling city offers an endlessly fascinating mix of neighbourhoods and lifestyles.
Whilst it’s relatively easy to walk around the shopping districts of Melrose, or even wander amidst the upmarket shops of Santa Monica, by far the best way to get around is to travel by car.
Whether it’s exploring the hipster-friendly reinvention of the Downtown area, checking out the raw-food revolution in trendy Silverlake or just hitting the beach amidst the crazy folk of Venice Beach, Los Angeles is always surprising and inspiring – oh and did we mention the amazing Mexican food?
The Bay Area
The beautiful San Francisco Bay Area offers a picture-perfect view of Californian cool. With the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, sinister Alcatraz Island and the dramatic hilly scenery of San Francisco, it’s got a character all of its own.
Those wishing to explore San Francisco’s beatnik heritage should definitely take a trip to the City Lights bookshop in North Beach before wandering up to visit the eccentric sights of Haight-Ashbury.
Whereas those seeking a little sporting entertainment should visit Santa Clara across the bay that’s hosting the highly-anticipated Super Bowl 50 event in February. Although many people are picking Pittsburgh Steelers as the favourites to win at Betway, last year’s champions New England Patriots are again showing great form this year.
Of course, there’s so much more to California than just the big cities. A trip up the iconic Pacific Coast Highway will reveal many beautiful vistas as well as charming seaside towns such as Pismo Beach and Carmel.
Whereas if you really fancy getting out there, few landscapes can be as impressive as the magnificent Yosemite National Park or the desert wilderness of the Joshua Tree National Park that is packed full of the surreal and iconic vegetation.
And just in case you’ve picked up the thirst for gambling with a Super Bowl win, it’s a good idea to remember that Las Vegas is just over the border in Nevada!
